dsc_9210-ed2 The Houston-based Calliope String Quartet takes inspiration in its namesake, the Greek muse of eloquence and epic poetry, whose name translates to “beautifully-voiced.” Formed in 2014 by graduates of the Shepherd and Moores Schools of Music, the quartet was drawn together by acollective passion for chamber music and desire to explore the string quartet repertoire. The musicians of the quartet areviolinists Laura Cividino and Hannah Watson, violist Rainey Weber and cellist Annamarie Reader.

Members of Calliope String Quartet can be seen performing with some of Houston’s leading arts organizations, such as the Houston Symphony Orchestra, Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet, Mercury, River Oaks Chamber Orchestra and Da Camera. The Calliope String Quartet has performed for a variety of Houston audiences, including the Italian Consulate of Houston, and in 2015, they completed their first European tour, performing in Slovenia and Austria as well as appearing as faculty at the MusicaGiovani Festival in Majano, Italy.

In addition to the myriad performing components of their careers, Annamarie, Hannah, Laura and Rainey are all individually dedicated as teachers and wish to inspire young musicians through their instruction and performances.

In addition to rehearsing, these friends also enjoy spending time cooking, exercising, and watching movies together.
